After accepting responsibility for environmental offences, Northumbrian Water have agreed to pay £1.179 million to a variety of local North East projects as per an offer by the EU.

Accepting an offer from the EU like this is often the direct alternative to prosecution, in cases where the environmental impact was localised, and the offence by Northumbrian Water was not intentional.
